Currently getting problems with my video players wmp, divx, nero, using vista!?

Hi, I am trying to play a video file (.avi) however no matter which program i use i get the same message :"(Name of program) has stopped working, A problem caused the program to stop working correctly Windows will close the program and notify................ I am currently using vista will appreciate any help thanks!
