Hatchling Iguana?

My boyfriend got a Hatchling Green Iguana, Kiwi, on the 5th of this month and Kiwi is still scared sh*tless (sorry for the language, lol). Kiwi freaks out and runs to the oposite end of the cage even when you just open the door to his room. I keep telling my boyfriend that the sooner he handles Kiwi the better (Kiwi is only about 2 1/2 months old). My boyfriend is scared that if he handles him/her (Kiwi is uned) that he will stress Kiwi out too much and all that. Please help!!
